It’s already been a couple of years since various top brands designed and launched folding screen smartphones. VIVO is among those. The company released the VIVO X Fold in April this year, and it has been actively working on a follow-up model. Today, following the schedule, the manufacturer launched the enhanced version of its foldable, namely the VIVO X Fold+.
Design
Externally, the VIVO X Fold+ inherits the X Fold’s style. However, the company has optimized various design elements. First, there is now a red variant, which looks outstanding. We guess the company did this specifically for Chinese customers.
At the same time, the weight of the device is controlled under 311 grams. It is also 14.91mm thick when folded and only 7.4mm when unfolded.
Screen
The X Fold+ also sports a 6.53-inch external screen with a 2520×1080 resolution and an aspect ratio of 21:9. By the way, this is the largest external screen among all foldable on the market. The internal screen is 8 inches and has a 4:3.55 aspect ratio and a resolution of up to 2160×1916.
Both the internal and external screens support a high refresh rate of 120Hz. Thus, when switching between them, users won’t feel any difference or inconvenience. Also, both screens come with a new generation of fingerprint recognition technology – a 3D ultrasonic dual-screen fingerprint. The latter has more vital anti-environmental interference ability, faster unlocking speed, and higher security.
The company has also optimized hinges, creases, etc. The hinge has 174 parts; it uses six-layer aerospace-grade materials; it is lightweight but durable. The company proves, in the laboratory tests, it exceeded 300,000 times bending. At the same time, the phone got the TUV Folding Worry-Free Certification.
For creases, the VIVO X Fold+ uses zirconium alloy floating mid-plate, UTG ultra-tough glass, and the industry’s smallest 2.3mm bending radius.
It eliminates not only creases but also the hinge system supports multi-angle hovering. The manufacturer has developed various application scenarios for this.
Hardware and Performance
Inside, the phone hosts the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 platform. We have talked about this chipset many times. So let’s skip the part when we praise the most powerful chip in the Android camp.
At the same time, the phone has a larger battery and a faster-charging speed. There is a 4730mAh battery, which supports 80W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. The battery life of the whole machine has been increased by more than 20%. The battery can be fully charged in 53 minutes.
The packaging includes a gallium nitride PD charger and a 1.5m fast charging data cable.
Camera
The VIVO X Fold+ uses Zeiss professional imaging. The camera module comes with Zeiss optical lenses and a T* coating. There is a Zeiss full-focus quad-camera, consisting of a rear 50-megapixel main camera lens, 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, 12-megapixel 2x telephoto lens, and 8-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. The camera supports up to 60x zoom and algorithmically supports master-level Zeiss effects, including night scenes, portraits, and videos.
Wrap up
VIVO claims that the X Fold+ has become the industry’s first folding screen phone that supports dual 5G dual-card dual-pass. In simple words, there will be no missed calls, the calls will be clear, and the phone will provide constant internet access.
The 12+256GB version of the VIVO X Fold+ costs 9,999 yuan ($1,399), while the 12+512GB version is priced at 10,999 yuan ($1539).
