With both the Galaxy Z Fold5/Flip5 and the upcoming Galaxy S23 series receiving new updates and refinements, Samsung is making notable progress with its smartphone products.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5/Flip5 Camera Update
On Weibo, a tech blogger recently announced that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 / Flip5 will soon receive a number of image-enhancing features. After the One UI 6 system upgrade, these features should be available on the Galaxy S23 series. One of the enhancements is an AI-powered digital zoom technique that combines multiple shots to create high-quality images. Together, the processing of an AI model, a high-quality image enhancement network and HDR technologies help photos to have less noise, better detail and more vibrant colors.
Text scanning enhancement is another notable feature, where algorithms improve accidental blurring or occlusion in scanned text, improving the clarity of the content and eliminating any occlusion on the page, such as fingers gripping the paper. The Galaxy Z Fold5 / Flip5 devices also have a “photo recapture” feature that removes the “foggy” appearance caused by camera smudges, resulting in sharper photos. This feature also promises a 30 to 50% speed increase.
Starting Production In India
On the manufacturing front, Samsung is producing its flagship Galaxy Z Fold5 and Flip5 at its Noida facility in Uttar Pradesh to meet local demand in India. This will ensure that Indian consumers have access to the latest foldable phones as soon as they become available. Four months after the first release, the company has developed the Fold4 and Flip4 series in India. Thanks to the Galaxy Z Fold5 / Flip5, Indian consumers can now buy locally manufactured devices, demonstrating Samsung’s commitment to the Make in India movement.
Samsung’s dominance in the smartphone business is further demonstrated by its leadership in the Indian smartphone market, with a 20% market share in Q1 2023. The company also maintained its dominance in 5G handset shipments with a market share of 24%.
The number of foldable smartphones expected to be shipped globally is expected to increase dramatically over the next few years, from 78.6 million units in 2026 to 101.5 million units in 2027. Reports suggest that Apple may release its foldable iPhone in 2025, and Samsung and Apple are predicted to dominate this market.
