Xiaomi India Branch has taken an important step to further localise its business by starting the production of wireless audio devices in collaboration with an Indian manufacturer, Optiemus Electronics Limited (OEL). This initiative demonstrates Xiaomi’s intention to expand its manufacturing capabilities in India.
The company intends to start manufacturing its first line of Indian-made audio devices at Optiemus Electronics’ facility in Optiemus, Uttar Pradesh. Xiaomi aims to increase the use of locally manufactured components by a staggering 50% by 2025.
Although Xiaomi has not specified the exact audio products that will be manufactured at the Indian facility, the company has stated its intention to develop additional similar collaborations across a wide range of product categories. This underlines Xiaomi’s commitment to improving its domestic manufacturing capabilities and meeting the diverse demands of Indian consumers.
It should be noted that Xiaomi already manufactures a large proportion of its smartphones and TVs in India. While the company has not said when it will start manufacturing audio products, it currently sells a range of audio devices in India, including speakers, earphones, wired earphones and wireless earphones.
Xiaomi India now offers two earbud models: the Redmi Buds 3 Lite, which costs 1,599 rupees (approximately $19), and the Redmi Earbuds 2C, which costs 999 rupees (approximately $12).
By expanding its local manufacturing capabilities to include wireless audio products, Xiaomi is strengthening its commitment to the Indian market and working to provide consumers with high-quality, locally-made options. This move not only supports the ‘Make in India’ policy, but also cements Xiaomi’s position as a dominant player in the Indian consumer electronics market.
