Apple has unveiled a new rainbow-colored sports strap, along with matching watch faces and iOS wallpapers, as part of its latest campaign to promote equality for the LGBTQ+ community worldwide. The new look is designed to represent the ongoing fight to defend and advance equality for all, while celebrating the power and beauty of the LGBTQ+ community.
With the addition of five more colors, including black and brown to reflect the African-American and Latino populations, as well as those who have died from or are currently battling AIDS, the new wristband design expands on the original rainbow flag. The colors white, pink and light blue represent non-binary and transgender people. Joyful, vibrant geometric motifs are sculpted onto the strap to embellish the white base. Each strap is distinctive and a representation of the diversity and individuality of each member of the LGBTQ+ community, as the base material flows around each individual figure during the manufacturing process, resulting in minute variations in distribution.
The new Pride Celebration watch face and iOS wallpaper also celebrate the unifying power and interdependent support of the LGBTQ+ community. The vibrant visuals elegantly combine the strap with the display and respond to the user’s touches and movements. When the user unlocks their iPhone, the supporting wallpaper dynamically changes, vividly representing this year’s Rainbow Edition design.
The new Rainbow Edition sports band costs $49 and will be available for order from 23 May. On the 25th of May, the product will be officially launched at Apple Store retail outlets.
