The Poco F5, the latest flagship smartphone from Xiaomi’s Poco brand, will go on sale internationally on 9 May, but a number of new phones, including the Poco F5 and Pro, have already been unveiled on Xiaomi’s official UAE website. The only aspect of the two F5 Pro models’ features and design that has not been revealed is their prices, which may not be announced until tomorrow’s press launch.
Poco F5 Pro specs
A high-end phone with three memory options, the Poco F5 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. The smartphone is essentially the Redmi K60 that Xiaomi launched in China under a different name, but with Google services and a slightly smaller battery, so it could be considered a completely new product.
The Poco F5 Pro’s screen is a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a WQHD+ resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels and the highest pixel density of any Poco phone at 526ppi. The screen also supports a 480Hz touch sample rate and 120Hz refresh rate. There is also a fingerprint reader under the display, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
On the back of the phone are three cameras: a 64-megapixel primary camera with an OV64B sensor, f/1.8 aperture, and 6P lens; an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with a 120-degree field of view; and a 2-megapixel macro camera. This pair of cameras support optical and electronic image stabilization; these features are rare on Poco phones and will be more desirable to people who like mobile photography. Located in the center of the display hole, the front camera has a 16MP resolution and can record video up to 1080p.
The new device uses a 5000 square millimeter LiquidCool VC cooling technology, which combines a graphite layer and a stainless-steel vacuum chamber to increase thermal conductivity by 15% compared to previous Poco F series phones.
The Poco F5 Pro’s battery capacity is 5160 mAh, which is smaller than the Redmi K60’s 5500 mAh, but it still supports 67W cable fast charging and 30W wireless fast charging. The operating system is based on Android 13 and is called MIUI 14.
The Poco F5 Pro has a carbon fiber-like design element on the back and is available in the UAE in white and black. It also comes with RAM and storage options of 8/256GB, 12/256GB, or 12/512GB.
Poco F5 highlights
The Poco F5 is a mid-range smartphone with 256GB of storage and an 8GB or 12GB RAM option. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 CPU. The Poco F5’s screen is still a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with the same refresh rate as the F5 Pro, but it only has a 1080p resolution. Although there is no mention of an Omnivision sensor, the rear camera is also a mix of 64 megapixels + 8 megapixels + 2 megapixels. This suggests that the main camera might be less powerful than the one on the Pro model. The front camera on this phone is also 16 megapixels and has both optical and electronic image stabilization.
The phone is slim and light; according to Poco, it weighs just 181 grams and is 7.9 mm thick. The Poco F5’s 5000 mAh battery supports a 67W fast charge. Other features include NFC, an IR blaster, Bluetooth 5.3, and MIUI 14 based on Android 13. The phone is just a repackaged Redmi Note 12 Turbo, so the specifications seem familiar.
According to Xiaomi UAE’s official website, the phone will come in three colors: black, blue, and white, with white serving as an accent color and emulating Frost’s design through the use of “two-color gradient offset printing” technology.
