A charged smartphone is what everyone is thinking of. You might not think this is the case for iPhone owners, but it is.
Many iPhone users know that a phone’s battery will eventually run out – but there are a number of mistakes people can make that will boost the iPhone discharge faster.
Keeping your phone charged all the time, watching movies while charging, and using chargers with too high a voltage can all reduce the life of your iPhone battery.
But there’s another surprising mistake most of us make. According to Mirror Online, charging an iPhone while wearing a cover can shorten its lifespan. David Eluemunoh, a popular tech TikToker, revealed the news in a viral video that over 1.6 million people on TikTok have viewed. “Stop charging your iPhone with a case,” he advised. Did you know that charging your iPhone in some types of cases causes it to get hot? “This is the main reason why your iPhone stops charging at 80% because it is hot.”
David says that overheating the phone could be the cause of your battery’s deteriorating health, a warning reiterated by Apple on its website.
“Charging your device while it’s inside certain types of cases can generate excessive heat, which can affect battery capacity,” the website says. If your smartphone becomes hot while charging, remove it from the case first.”
Did you know this about the iPhone battery?
David explained that this is why iPhones stop charging at 80%, but iPhones with healthy batteries use optimal charging and stop at this level. This is done so that your phone does not charge continuously through the night; it starts charging at 2am in the morning to accommodate your schedule.
In Settings, under Battery, Apple has a handy battery health indicator that can show the actual percentage of charge when your phone says it is fully charged – the lower the percentage, the less time your phone will stay on.
At around 85%, you may find that you need to charge your phone twice a day or that it is not lasting as long. Below 80%, you may want to consider a battery replacement, which is a great way to extend the life of your iPhone without buying a new device.
If your phone’s battery frequently heats up for no apparent reason, you should have it checked, as this could indicate that the battery is swelling. If the phone appears to bend at the back or open at the side without damage, the battery may be bloated and should be serviced as soon as possible, as it could explode.
Viewers were amazed by David’s charging revelation, with one commenter saying: “I’m watching this while charging my phone with the case on.
