We know that this year Samsung will launch two new foldable phones: the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Much of the focus on the two phones has been on the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s improved cover display. But that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been talk about its bigger brother. This month alone, we’ve heard that the next edition of the Galaxy Z Fold series will be lighter and slimmer than the 2022 model, as well as some unfavorable information about its rear cameras. Some sharp-looking renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 have emerged ahead of its planned unveiling in July.
These renders come from OnLeaks via Smartprix but we want to praise Android Police which has gathered all information into one place. Prior to this, we have heard that the thickness of the foldable is 13.4mm when folded, a notable drop from the 14.2mm to 15.8mm range on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 due to the controversial hinge. These images support rumors that Samsung would use a teardrop hinge to cover the annoying gap that appeared on last year’s flagship when folded.
Plus, these images reveal a largely unchanged rear camera system, with Samsung apparently sticking to a triple camera setup this time around. The LED flash has also changed position, now sitting to the right of the camera sensors rather than below them.
The two screens of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 are not expected to differ much. As Smartprix reported, Samsung will keep the 7.6-inch core screen and the 6.2-inch cover screen. With the exception of the back, these four renders are accompanied by a 3D film that shows the device from different perspectives.
Although Samsung was originally expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 by the end of August, as it did last year, a more recent rumor suggests that the foldables could be unveiled any day between 25 and 27 July. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as the company may be trying to catch up with Vivo, which has just launched two new foldables. Meanwhile, Lenovo-owned Motorola has two Razr phones planned for this year.
