Initially, Sony had some supply issues with the launch of the PlayStation 5. But now we learn that it has achieved respectable sales figures, with 32.1 million units shipped so far. Sony expects this figure to at least double over the next few years as the company ramps up the production and manufacturing of its systems.
PlayStation 5 Shipments
Although the PlayStation 5’s sales are impressive, it’s a big question whether the PS5 will surpass the PS4’s sales. Furthermore, the PS5 has yet to match the PS4’s shipments over the same period. According to official data, the PS4 has shipped 37.9 million units in the nine quarters since its launch, while the PS5 has only shipped 32.1 million units. Sony hasn’t said whether the PS5 will beat the PS4, but the company is confident that its new PlayStation will surpass 60 million units sold.
“I think we have good chance of exceeding 60 million units and, as you may know, we’ve sold more than 100 million units in the PlayStation 4 era,” said Hiroki Totoki, president and chief operating officer of Sony Corp.

Hiroki Totoki emphasized that the PS4’s user base may eventually shift to the PS5 and that Sony has achieved efficient user acquisition through its new system: “We have extremely loyal PS4 users. (loyal users who could switch to PlayStation 5). We built PS5 in an effort to deliver a better user experience, and current proportions show that 30% of PS5 owners don’t have a PS4. This gives us good potential as the PlayStation 5 ecosystem expands and penetrates further.”
Hiroki Totoki was asked when PlayStation 5 would peak. Typically, a console generation peaks in the fourth year for hardware and the fifth year for software. However, the new coronavirus epidemic has disrupted the market order. When will the PS5 peak? Totsuka wasn’t sure, but he said Sony expected the PS5 to “continue to sell” four years after launch.
You might think that no gadget has such a long life. But that’s not the case with game consoles. In general, the games industry has its own rules. Studios and hardware companies invest heavily; they spend too much on R&D and it takes relatively long. So their products stay on the market longer than other consumer electronics.
So if you wonder how Sony sells the same product year after year, here is a good example.
PS5 Bundle With God of War: Ragnarok Leaked
The company already offers an interesting bundle. As well as the PS5 CD-ROM console, this bundle also includes the game ‘God of War: Ragnarok,’ a blue and white PS5 grip, and a charging station for the grip.
“God of War: Ragnarok,” the latest exclusive masterpiece from Sony for the PS5 / PS4 platform, has now sold more than 11 million copies. It is also the fastest-selling first-party game in PlayStation history. Many players have to buy the game separately after purchasing the console. So Sony has decided to make an exclusive offer and sell their two favorite products in a bundle.
At the moment we have no information on how much the package will cost. However, it’s not hard to guess that the bundle will be cheaper than buying them separately.
