Vlogging is not only fun but also lucrative. That’s why many people are quitting their day jobs and moving to TikTok and other social platforms. In this sense, Facebook’s Reels are another way to get paid for showing your life or just for making funny and interesting short videos. But it turns out that Meta is not going to pay bonuses to creators for posting on Facebook and Instagram. At least it is suspending the Reels Play bonus program, according to Insider.
The Reels Play program was launched at the end of 2021. In simple terms, it’s a bonus program that allows creators to earn extra money if they reach certain view counts and other metrics. By the way, the highest-paid creators could reach $35,000 a month. While you might think that Meta is throwing its money around, this was just a monetization program launched to make Reels more competitive with TikTok.
Today, Meta announced that it would “no longer extend new and renewed Reels Play deals for creators on Facebook and for US creators on Instagram at this time.” However, we think that Meta will offer other ways to earn extra money as it enters new markets and needs to attract more and more users.
In this regard, we should mention that Meta is pausing the Reels Play program because it is going to start advertising on Reels. That’s a more traditional way for creators to make money.
Tom Alison, who runs Meta’s Facebook app, writes: “We will continue to expand our testing of ads on Facebook Reels to help more creators earn ad revenue for their Reels and increase virtual gifting through Stars on Reels.
There’s no word yet on when Facebook and Instagram users will see these “tests” expand. But hitting the pause button suggests it’s just around the corner.
