Last year, there were many talks as Tencent was going to acquire Black Shark. If the deal takes place, Tencent was planning to use Black Shark’s capacities to make hardware for the metaverse. However, something happened, and the deal was canceled. Since then, we haven’t heard anything about this brand. But there have been rumors as the company was working on the next-gen Black Shark 6 gaming smartphones. Though we have no hope that this series of gaming phones will ever be launched, today, a Weibo tipster shared some info concerning this handset.
If believing in the mentioned source, the Black Shark 6 series of smartphones will come with specs that are in line with the configuration of mainstream flagship phones in 2023. The Black Shark 6 series is planned to use a 2K centered single-hole flexible straight screen. Inside, it should house the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, a built-in 5000mAh battery, and support for 120W fast charging.
There will also be a rear-mounted Sony IMX686 sensor, symmetrical double speakers with a large sound cavity, active cooling and heat dissipation, a ceramic body, etc.
By the way, though Black Shark has been silent for a long time, recently, it launched a standard version of the Black Shark Frozen Cooling Back Clip 3. So there are some reasons to think that the brand is resurrecting.
At the end of January this year, the Black Shark 5 series gaming phones were removed from the shelves. At the beginning of January this year, Black Shark was accused of not paying employees’ resignation compensation. In October 2022, there were reports that Black Shark was shrinking the number of jobs significantly. The job abolishment involved various departments of the company, and the layoff ratio was nearly 50%. At the end of 2022, the media broke out rumors of the adjustment of Black Shark’s technical personnel.
