Xiaomi must be approaching a vital stage in the production preparation for its first electric car, codenamed Modena. We have only just been treated to leaked photos of the car undergoing winter testing and now we can get our first look at the look of this electric vehicle. Let’s get to know this better.
Xiaomi Modena Design drawings
As we can see in the leaked drawing, the front bumpers of the Xiaomi Modena is looks modest, with small imitations of side vents and an air intake in the middle. Recall that even if electric vehicles do not have an internal combustion engine under the hood, they need an air intake for battery thermoregulation and climate control.
As for the side deflectors, they can reduce the drag coefficient of the car. But the Modena deflectors look like a simple imitation. In this way, Xiaomi designers make their electric car more sporty. Similar to the look of many electric vehicles, the Xiaomi Modena does not have a front grille. It will also have a pair of oval headlights.
As for the rear bumper, it also has imitation side air ducts. Its shape is also simple and aerodynamic. In addition, the rear bumper does not have any interesting details.
Relations between Xiaomi and BAIC
Together with the bumper design, the list of approved suppliers was leaked as well. Until now, we knew that BYD was supplying its blade batteries for the Xiaomi Modena and now BAIC has joined the team. Because we noticed the BAIC name on the list of body parts. This hints that BAIC could become Xiaomi’s OEM supplier. Xiaomi is partnering with the biggest suppliers in China and it will surely help the company with bringing the Modena to the market on time.
Release and Price
Recall that Modena is the first Xiaomi electric car, the release of which is scheduled for 2024. The main work on the car has been completed, and now it is undergoing a series of tests in China. The estimated price of an electric car in the domestic market varies from 260 thousand yuan (around US$ 38322) to 350 thousand yuan (about US$51588), depending on the configuration.
The manufacturer plans to release three versions of Xiaomi Modena, two of which will receive BYD Blade (LFP) batteries, and the third will be equipped with CATL’s Qilin battery with an 800V platform. It is reported that in the top modification of the electric car, the express charging function will be available, which can replenish the battery from 0 to 80% in 15 minutes.
In addition, the approximate power of the Moderna power plant is already known. The car will be driven by a 354-horsepower electric motor. Xiaomi Modena will be equipped with LiDAR sensors, as well as a special Qualcomm 8295 chip, which has not yet been put into mass production.
Earlier, Lei Jun, a top manager of the corporation, spoke about the plans of Xiaomi to sell more than 10 million electric vehicles of its own production annually. In his opinion, it is with this indicator that you need to enter the market in order to become one of the most successful manufacturers of environmentally friendly cars.
