In 2020, Google made major changes to the Chromecast lineup. It canceled the long-standing Cast OS in favor of Android TV, or, more specifically, a newly revamped “Google TV.” Last year, the company continued this tendency and released the Chromecast with Google TV (HD), bringing the experience to a more affordable price point.
Of course, both products had shortcomings. Google has had to work hard to keep costs down with minimal specs. One of the biggest complaints against the Chromecast with Google TV has to do with the storage space. This makes installing and updating media apps difficult. We mean due to the insufficient storage space, users have to choose which apps they should keep and which ones to uninstall in order to free space for the new apps.
In the latest preview update to the Google Home app, the company included early preparations for a new Google TV device dubbed “YTC.” Elsewhere in the code, it directly confirms that this is a “Chromecast with Google TV” — along with the previous model “YTV” (Chromecast with Google TV) and “YTB” (Chromecast HD).
Considering that Google has already released a low-end model of the Chromecast, it is expected that a higher-end product will be released as planned to replace its current top-notch model.
Hopefully Google will support more storage on the next Chromecast with Google TV. We also think the company should upgrade the processor. These are not only our wishes but the recent requirements of Android TV concerning hardware.
The new Chromecast should also include a second USB-C port for plugging in accessories or extra storage.
By the way, yesterday, we learned that Google TV might start using remote controls with endless battery power. If this becomes a reality, this product will have a high demand. But before this happens, Google should think about its strategy to withstand the competition.
