The Red Magic 8 Pro and Red Magic 8 Pro+ gaming phones were released earlier today. They struggle against the whole world. The reason is that no major manufacturer believes gaming handsets will have strong demand. This is not only the next iteration of the series but also the world’s first handset in many aspects.
The biggest highlights
Both models sport a 6.8-inch flexible straight screen with an off-screen camera. The screen is customized by Red Magic and BOE. It is the world’s first straight screen smartphone with an under-screen camera. Due to the latter, it has a high 93.7% screen-to-body ratio. The rest of the display parameters include PWM dimming + DC dimming, 120Hz refresh rate, 960Hz touch sampling rate, peak brightness of 1300nit, 10bit color depth, and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut.
Compared with the iPhone 14 Pro, the Red Magic 8 Pro has no bangs on the front. So the display effect is much better in all scenarios. When playing games, there will be no holes, bangs or Dynamic Islands to block the game screen. Plus, the game display area is significantly larger than that of the iPhone 14 Pro.
However, it’s not about the screen only. The Red Magic 8 Pro is equipped with Qualcomm’s second-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform. In terms of heat dissipation, it comes with an ICE 11.0 magic cooling system: built-in fan + full-through air duct, the first 3D ice-level double-pump VC liquid cooling, graphene under the screen, and up to 10 layers of heat dissipation materials. Thanks to all these, the surface temperature of the whole machine can drop by 16°C in seconds.
At the same time, the series comes with a built-in Magic GPU self-developed frame stabilization engine. It targets optimization of frame drop scenes, giving you a full-frame gaming experience throughout the process.
With powerful heat dissipation and excellent tuning, in AnTuTu, the Red Magic 8 Pro scored 1.34 million points. It’s the most powerful device that has appeared in this benchmark platform to date.
What else
The camera sensor under the display has a 16MP resolution. It’s sufficient to take good selfies and provide HD video calls. On the opposite side, the phones have a 50MP AI triple camera.
In addition, the Red Magic 8 Pro series sports 1115K+1216 ultra-linear stereo double speakers: double closed BOX structure large sound cavity, support for 96kHz lossless sound quality, ultra-low latency, and power consumption is reduced by 20%, bringing players the best experience in the history of the Red Magic.
The machine comes with the industry’s fastest 520Hz gaming shoulder keys, dual X-axis linear motors, and 240MHz high-frequency concurrent HBS+9 antenna matrix WiFi.
The only difference
The difference between Red Magic 8 Pro and Red Magic 8 Pro+ lies in the battery and fast charging. The Pro uses a 6000mAh with 80W wired charging, while the Pro+ uses a 5000mAh battery with 165W charging.

In terms of price, the Red Magic 8 Pro Dark Knight starts at 3999 yuan ($574), the Red Magic 8 Pro Deuterium Front Transparent 12+256GB starts at 4999 yuan ($718), while the Red Magic 8 Pro+ Dark Night Knight starts at 5199 yuan ($547), and the Red Magic 8 Pro+ Deuterium Front Transparent 5399 yuan ($775).
