The manufacturer of processors MediaTek does not stop competing with Qualcomm, because the company is about to launch a new chipset for mid-range smartphones, the Dimensity 8200. The information was confirmed by the insider “Digital Chat Station”, in a post on the Chinese social network Weibo. In addition to confirming the name of the SoC, the account also leaked the main specifications of the mobile processor.
According to the report, the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 will use a CPU and GPU architecture practically identical to the current Dimensity 8100, betting on the increase in clocks (frequency) to deliver more processing capacity.
The MediaTek Dimensity 8200 will have a configuration with 4 Cortex-A78 cores and 4 Cortex-A55 cores. The first group will be divided into two clusters so that one A78 core will run at 3.1 GHz, while the other three will work at a slightly lower frequency of 3.0 GHz. By way of comparison, these cores operate at 2.85 GHz on the current Dimensity 8100.
The A-55 cores will have a maximum clock of 2.0 GHz, being destined to high-efficiency operations and low energy consumption.
AnTuTu performance of the new Dimensity 8200 SoC
Completing the architecture description, the publication on Weibo mentions that the GPU will be the same, the Mali-G610 MC6. In tests on the AnTuTu benchmark, this MediaTek Dimensity 8200 configuration would be able to surpass the 900 thousand points mark, a very respectable result considering the price range the chipset is intended for.
In addition, he also tells us that it will have a very competitive price, which will make it an ideal option to lower the price of phones with good performance.
