Today, as part of its online presentation on YouTube, Honor revealed the flexible Honor Magic Vs It is a high-end device that will finally be the first Honor foldable to leave China. The previous model, the Honor Magic V, stayed in its home market, but now it looks like Honor is ready to take on Samsung, Huawei, and Motorola in other markets.
In the case of the new Honor Magic Vs, the manufacturer, first of all, brags about its thickness, which is only 12.9 mm when closed. That’s a very interesting value for a foldable smartphone. The same applies to a weight of 261 grams. Although it is a lot, it is rather a lighter device in the field of puzzles. The lower weight is also attributed to an improved hinge that uses fewer components and is made from materials that are used in the aerospace industry.
In what would be the back, we find a striking design, with colors like orange and cyan, and a huge camera module, which we will talk about later. Between the two panels, the hinge. This hinge, Honor claims, has fewer components but is just as durable. According to the firm, the hinge can withstand up to 400,000 folds, which would be 100 folds a day for more than ten years. We’ll see how that holds that promise.
As far as the screen is concerned, we have a book-type device with an internal or main screen and an external screen. The external one, which is the one we will use with the folded terminal, is a 6.45-inch OLED panel with FullHD+ resolution, 21:9 format, and 120Hz refresh rate that reproduces 100% of the DCI-P3 color space. Honor ensures that it occupies 90% of the front. On paper, it doesn’t look bad.
The internal or folding screen is larger. We are facing a flexible 7.9-inch OLED panel with a 90 Hz refresh rate, 100% reproduction of the DCI-P3 color space, and compatibility with HDR10 +. Honor’s idea is to offer a tablet-like experience.
If we take a look at the components, we will find an interesting evolution. If the previous model incorporated the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the new Honor Magic Vs mounts the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which partly solves the throttling problems. It is accompanied by eight or 12GB of RAM and 256 or 512GB of RAM, depending on the version.
All this is given life by a 5000mAh battery divided into two cells with 66W fast charging. According to Honor, the terminal fully charges in 46 minutes. The operating system is Android 12 with MagicOS 7.0, Honor’s customization layer that, let’s remember, does incorporate Google Mobile Services on international devices.
Finally, and in terms of photography, the Honor Magic Vs mounts three sensors. The first and most striking is the main one, which is none other than the 54-megapixel Sony IMX800. It also has a 50-megapixel wide-angle that works as a macro and an 8-megapixel telephoto with 3x optical zoom, 30x digital zoom, and OIS. Selfies are in the hands of a 16-megapixel camera.
