We have already discussed the new smartwatch that Huawei introduced at today’s conference. It starts a new era of smartwatches. But another product was in the spotlight – the Huawei Pocket S, a new clamshell smartphone.
New Hinge Structure
Huawei Pocket S draws inspiration from all things in nature, integrates high-end fashion, and releases six fashion colors. We can find Obsidian Black, Frost Silver, Mint Green, Sakura Pink, Primrose Gold, and Ice Crystal Blue among them. The Frost Silver uses frosted glass that does not collect fingerprints at all. The other five colors use bright glass to form a transparent ceramic texture.
Huawei Pocket S uses the industry’s first multi-dimensional linkage lifting water drop hinge. It uses an innovative MIM steel material, which is tough and stable. After 400,000 folding tests, it has obtained the world’s first Swiss SGS folding screen smartphone durability certification.
Screens
The foldable screen of the handset is 6.9 inches and has a 2790 × 1188 resolution. This OLED screen supports up to 120Hz refresh rate, 1440Hz high-frequency PWM Light adjustment, 300Hz touch sampling rate, 1.07 billion colors, P3 wide color gamut, etc. At the same time, there is a 1.04-inch 340 × 340 circular OLED external screen.
The Huawei Pocket S also supports HDR Vivid video display, with richer colors and layers and stronger contrast between light and dark. There is an anti-reflective nano-optical film.
Due to the new displays and the new hinge design, the body weight is about 190g, while the phone is 7.2mm (thickness is 15.2mm when folded). Thus, it’s very comfortable for single-hand operations.
The phone’s smart external screen adapts to rich application ecology and personalized themes. Through it, you can receive notifications, listen to music, answer calls, and take pictures without unfolding.
Camera
The Huawei Pocket S uses a super-sensing 40-megapixel RYYB 1/1.7-inch sensor, which has an f/1.8 aperture. The super-sensing imaging system and RYYB super-sensing sensor increase the amount of light entering by 40%. This sensor comes with a new night scene algorithm to optimize the texture of light and shadow. With the help of the primary color engine and the strength of the 10-channel multi-spectral sensor, it supports 2.5cm macro shooting.
There is also a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor with an f/2.2 aperture f/2.2 and a laser focus sensor.
Apart from the main camera, there is also a 10MP selfie shooter. You can use it to take selfies without unfolding the phone.
Huawei Pocket S Hardware and Performance
Under the hood, our protagonist hosts the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 4G processor. Plus, it is the world’s first to come with an ultra-cold flexible graphene heat dissipation system. The cross-axis graphene heat-conducting layer conducts cross-axis, efficient heat conduction, and the heat-conducting area is increased by 80%.
The 4000mAh battery supports 40W fast charging. The handset can reach 52% in 20 minutes.
Another selling point of the device is the super antenna signal. Regardless of how you hold the phone, it will provide you with the best signal. Other than that, the phone supports Wi-Fi 6.
Price and Availability
The phone is available in three memory configurations:
- 8GB+128GB – 5988 yuan ($821);
- 8GB+256GB – 6488 yuan ($890);
- 8GB+512GB – 7488 yuan ($1027).
The first two are already available for booking and will start shipping on November 10. However, the 512GB version will go on sale in December.
