Nvidia GeForce RTX 40: Three New Graphics Cards Presented

Recently, the CEO of Nvidia officially introduced 3 new VGA models that are RTX 4090, RTX 4080 16GB, and RTX 4080 12GB, the first SKUs of the next generation of Series 40 called “Ada”. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 GPU has 76 billion transistors and TSMC 4N processing technology. Nvidia confirms Ada Lovelace supports DLSS 3 upscaling technology. For game streaming, the RTX 40 GPU features dual AV1 encoders that support recording up to 8K 60 FPS.

The top-of-the-line Ada Lovelace GPU is equipped with 24GB of GDDR6X memory, reaching a maximum peak bandwidth of 1TB/s. The RTX 4090 has a TDP of 450W and Nvidia recommends an 850W power supply.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080

The RTX 4080 has two models with different amounts of video memory and CUDA cores. The RTX 4080 12GB is equipped with 7,680 CUDA cores and clocked at 2.61 GHz. The RTX 4080 16GB offers 9,728 cores and a slightly lower clock rate than the other model, 2.51 GHz.

The RTX 4080’s memories operate at 22.5 Gbps. For comparison, the RTX 3090 Ti has memories at 21 Gbps from the factory. The 16GB version has a TDP of 320W, while the 12GB model has a TDP of 285W, with recommended sources of 750W and 700W, respectively.

During the presentation, Jesen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, also said that they managed to break the 3 GHz overclock with an Ada Lovelace GPU, without mentioning which one. Furthermore, he said that the new graphics architecture allows for up to 18,000 CUDA Cores, indicating a possible RTX 4090 Ti in the future.

Nvidia guarantees that the RTX 4090 is between two to four times faster than the RTX 3090 Ti. The RTX 4080 has the same performance boost over the RTX 3080 Ti. Both cards require “a 450W or higher 5th Gen PCIe cable”, but Nvidia guarantees adapters for 8-pin cables.

During the event, Nvidia also announced DLSS 3, a new generation of proprietary image upscaling techniques. Nvidia has made no mention of other SKUs below the RTX 4080, implying that the RTX 3070 (Ti), RTX 3060 (Ti), and RTX 3050 will be available on the market alongside the two high-end GPUs RTX 4090 and RTX 4080. at the time.

Prices and Availability of Nvidia GeForce RTX 40

If you’re interested in one of the new graphics cards, I hope you’ve already saved a lot. Even the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 with 12GB of RAM costs 1,099 euros. The RTX 4080 with 16GB of RAM can be yours for 1,469 euros. If you want to take a look at the top model, then you should have 1,949 euros on the high edge. The GeForce RTX 4090 will go on sale on October 12, the other two models will not start until November 2022.
