After pre-heating for a few weeks, Xiaomi’s sub-brand launched two budget phones today, Poco M5 and the Poco M5s. As the name implies, the latter is a slightly improved version of the former pocket-friendly smartphone. They are powered by the Helio G chipsets, 5000mAh batteries, and a few other selling points.
Poco M5 Key Features
The Poco M5 sports a 6.58-inch LCD screen with a Full HD+ resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The display is protected with Gorilla Glass.
In terms of photography, there is a 5MP selfie shooter on the front. On the opposite side, there is a triple camera, including a 50MP f/1.8 sensor, a 2MP f/2.4 macro lens, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth lens.
However, the selling point of the handset is considered the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset. This is the first SoC in the series coming with a 6nm process technology by TSMC. Also, it consists of two Cortex-A76 CPU cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six Cortex-A55 units at 2.0GHz. The chip comprises 4GB or 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB or 128GB UFS 2.2 native storage. If it’s not sufficient, you can expand the storage via a microSD slot.
Of course, the Poco M5 runs MIUI 13 based on Android 12. But it comes with minor modifications. The handset weighs 201 grams and packs a 5,000mAh battery with 18W charging support.
This phone is available in three colors – Black, Green, and the unique Poco Yellow. The 4/64GB version costs €189, the 4/128 GB variant is €209, while the 6/128GB will cost €229. The phone will start shipping in Europe on September 6 but will land in the South Asian countries a week later, on September 13.
Poco M5s Selling Points
The Poco M5s comes with some enhancements. For instance, it features a 6.43-inch AMOLED screen. Though instead of LCD, it uses AMOLED, and the refresh rate is 60Hz.
Under the hood, the phone hosts the 12nm Helio G95 chipset. Unfortunately, we have to remind you that this chip was released nearly two years ago.
The camera parameters are slightly better than those of the model above. Say, the Poco M5s sports a 64MP f/1.8 main camera, while the rest of the sensors include an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide lens with 118-degree FoV and two 2MP lenses. The front camera has a higher resolution of 13MP.
Although the battery capacity is the same, the Poco M5s supports 33W fast charging. Due to it, the battery will be fully charged in an hour.
The Poco M5s also has NFC, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and an IP53 rating.
The Poco M5s is available in Grey, White, and Blue colors. The prices start at €209 for 4/64 GB, €229 for 4/128 GB, and €249 for 6/128 GB.
The Bottom Line
If these specs sound familiar to you, then we have to reveal the secret. These two are the rebranded Redmi Note 10S and Redmi Note 11 SE launched in India. The biggest difference is software. The Poco M5s comes with the latest MIUI 13, on top of Android 12.
