After having its specifications revealed in certifications, the new Sony Xperia 5 IV gained an official release date in Japan. The news was shared by the manufacturer on the morning of this Thursday (25). According to Sony, the event is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. in Japan on September 1st and will be broadcast live on the official Sony Xperia YouTube channel.
Sony has collaborated with artist Cat Burns, who has recorded her latest music video with the “new Xperia phone”, although she has not explicitly mentioned that it is the Xperia 5 IV.
What is known about the upcoming Sony Xperia 5 IV?
Little is known about the specifications of the new Sony Xperia 5 IV smartphone, but some details about it were even revealed in the FCC listing of the device. According to information about the device at the certification agency, it will have a 6.04-inch screen (153.5 mm diagonal). With that, it will be a little smaller than the Xperia 5 III, which has a 6.1-inch screen. The screen resolution of the new model was not mentioned, but it should be based on OLED technology.
The new Xperia 5 IV should come equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and should bring NFC and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. The set of rear cameras of the new smartphone will apparently be similar to that of the Xperia 5 III, which has a 12MP main camera, a 12MP telephoto, and a 12MP ultrawide.
The listing of the Xperia 5 IV on the FCC indicates that the new smartphone from Sony will have a USB Type-C port and 5000mAh battery with support for wireless charging, which is not very common in the smartphones of the Japanese company.
Information from a Chinese informant suggests that the Sony Xperia 5 IV will be sold for prices in the region of 5,000 yuan (around $730), which indicates that the values may be close to the 5,600 yuan (about $817) charged by the previous version.
