The Philippines-based studio Bit Planet Games shared on Twitter the first real photo of the Sony PS VR2.
At its CES 2022 keynote in January, Sony talked about the PS VR2 and its technical specifications for the first time. At the same time, the company confirmed the arrival of its PlayStation VR2 Sense console.
In terms of the first title, Sony said that the PS5: Call of Horizon Hills from Guerrilla and Firesprite will become the first VR game for the new Sony PS VR2 headset.
Prior to this, we have heard much about this VR headset. For instance, we know that it will appear on the shelves next year. At the launch, there will be at least 20 games.
In terms of key features, the Sony PS VR2 will support a 4K HDR, 110° wide viewing angle, and center rendering. Apart from this, the OLED display used in the new phone will provide a resolution of 2000×2040 per eye and a refresh rate of 90/120Hz.
What’s more interesting, the upcoming Sony PS VR2 will support foveated rendering. The latter is a rendering technique, which uses an eye tracker to essentially improve the graphical quality of VR software. It can reach such performance due to reducing the image quality in the peripheral vision of the user.
Right now, there is a considerable amount of money being spent on partnerships with independent and other third-party developers to secure a considerable pipeline of attractive VR content at the launch of PlayStation VR2,” said SIE president Jim Ryan.
“That energy, that effort and that money will continue to grow as the installed base of PlayStation VR 2 headsets grows also.”
Sony is one of those companies that is actively working on VR headsets. But if many of them are newcomers (Apple, Facebook, etc.), the Japanese company knows how to make good VR headsets.
