Qualcomm leads the Android mobile phones market. Though there are a few other chip manufacturers, none of them can challenge this company. Its Snapdragon series mobile chips have been considered to be the best options when it comes to performance, power consumption control, heat dissipation, etc. But recently, the Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek introduced the Dimensity line chips that are going to make a tough competition to Snapdragon models. And we have to say the Dimensity chipsets are what Qualcomm has been fearing. Today, a Weibo tipster published the GeekBench 5 benchmark scores of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Also, he showed how two other top-end chips – the vanilla Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Dimensity 9000 act in similar conditions.
The benchmark score shows that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 got a single-core score of 1311 and a multi-core score of 4070. Compared with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the single-core and multi-core results of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 have improved. Compared with the MediaTek Dimensity 9000, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1’s single-core score is slightly better than the Dimensity 9000. However, the multi-core performance of the Dimensity 9000 is slightly better.
In comparison to the vanilla version, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 process technology has been changed to TSMC’s 4nm process. But the architecture has not been changed at all. It still uses a three-cluster architecture of super-large core Cortex-X2 + large-core A710 + small-core A510. However, the highest frequency of the super core is increased to 3.2GHz. In effect, the CPU performance is improved by 10%, and the GPU performance is also improved by 10%. Officially, the CPU power consumption is reduced by about 30% compared with the Snapdragon 8, and the GPU power consumption is reduced by up to 30%. The overall power consumption of the platform is reduced by about 15% compared with the Snapdragon 8.
New phones powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform will be released one after another from July. The first brands to launch corresponding phones will include Xiaomi, Motorola, iQOO, and Realme.
