At the end of June, Microsoft will release a new Xbox TV app. The latter will allow owners of Samsung’s 2022 smart TVs and monitors to play Xbox games, and they won’t need to own a game console. As the Redmond-based company said, all subscribers of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will get access to more than 100 games through Samsung’s 2022 smart TVs.
In fact, the upcoming Xbox TV app will operate like other apps such as Netflix. The first batch to support the app will include 27 countries. Users will only have to sign in to their Microsoft accounts in the app and stream Xbox games. It’s identical to how you stream games via Xbox Cloud Gaming in a browser.
At the same time, it’s useful to know that the app will support multiple controllers. Users only have to connect them through Bluetooth and they will be ready to operate. Unfortunately, no 4K streaming is available, only FHD at 60fps.
“We are bringing the Xbox App to Samsung Smart TVs first, and our intent is to explore other TV partnerships as part of this next evolution in our vision,” explains Ashley McKissick, corporate vice president of Xbox gaming experiences and platforms.
Anyway, this is not anything news. We learned about the Xbox TV app a year ago, when Microsoft announced its intentions of Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass. Since then, Microsoft has been gradually expanding its offers for the Xbox Cloud Gaming. Now, it’s available for iOS devices through the browser and even on the web, Xbox One consoles, and PCs.
But Microsoft has further-going plans – it wants to make Xbox streaming devices that can be connected to monitors or TVs and stream games very much like this Xbox TV app.
