When we talk about an upcoming product, we use names that get confirmed much later. The same happened with Google’s first smartwatch. For a few months, we’ve been calling it the Google Pixel Watch. And today, we learned that Alphabet’s company had filed a new trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, in which it talks about the Pixel Watch.
In the application, we can read that the Pixel Watch name is “intended to cover the categories of smartwatches; cases adapted for holding smartwatches; wearable computers in the nature of smartwatches; smartwatch straps; smartwatch bands.” Moreover, in the filing, we can read that though this name is not in use currently, there is an intent to use it.
In this regard, we should also point out that Google recently changed its store so that to make watches more outstanding. We mean Google is already getting prepared for the upcoming wearables.
Well, those who follow Google’s activity know that the company has been rumored to launch a smartwatch soon. The forthcoming Pixel Watch is going to be an important part of its Pixel ecosystem. Moreover, by launching this product with this name, Google wants to show it will be a companion to its Pixel phones.
According to various rumors, the watch will hit the stores in December. Moreover, we’ve managed to see a number of leaks and renders. There has been another group of rumors saying the Pixel Watch will be announced at Google I/O next month.
What We Know About Pixel Watch
Apart from this, after Fitbit’s acquisition, we knew that the first Google Smartwatch will come with some Fitbit features as well as Wear OS 3. However, unlike Fitbit products, the Pixel Watch will cost much more, making a tough competition directly to the Apple Watch.
Recently, through Gizchina, we saw the leaked watch face of the Google Pixel Watch. From it, we can see that the Google Pixel Watch (aka Rohan) will run the Wear OS 3.1 jointly created with Samsung.
Moreover, the watch will adopt a round display design, while the digital crown will be on the right side. We can also see the heart rate icon on the screen. The watch will also support a pedometer, heart rate tracking, and other popular features. Plus, it is going to be a standalone smartwatch supporting calls directly from the watch.
The Google smartwatch will be available in two colors – Black and Silver. But there will be more than 20 different straps.
