Today, Huawei issued a statement, saying that the next-gen folding screen smartphone dubbed the Huawei Mate Xs 2 will hit the stores on April 28. Also, the company released an official poster, disclosing some details of the upcoming foldable handset.
From the poster and a few other leaked photos, we can see that the forthcoming Huawei Mate Xs 2 adopts a unique horizontal foldable hinge design. Thus, it opens and closes in a side-by-side direction. Also, this phone has only one large screen than can be folded.
The outward folding mechanism differs from that of the Huawei Mate X2. We mean the latter has two displays. One is on the cover, whereas the second screen is inside that works as the primary viewing solution.

Anyway, from the renders, we can see that the phone has a hole punch on the top right corner of the display.
In comparison to the first generation, there has been no hole on the screen because it was using the primary camera as the selfie shooter.
From the same images, we can also see that the handset will come with the same vertical grip strip that comprises the power button, lock, unlock, volume rocker, and camera module. Plus, there will be up to three versions.
Though there is no official confirmation, we guess the handset will get improved in all aspects. This is especially important for the display. Our assumptions are based on the words of Yu Chengdong, Executive Director of Huawei, Devices BG CEO, and Smart Car Solutions BU CEO. He said that the Mate Xs 2 is the fifth model in the Huawei foldable smartphone category. So it will surely surpass consumers’ expectations.
Lastly, from leaks, we could learn that the Huawei Mate Xs 2 will come with a 4800mAh battery that might support 66W super-fast charging. Of course, it will support WiFi 6 and many other new technologies.
Huawei Mate Xs Features
As we are talking about the follow-up model of the Huawei Mate Xs, it’s reasonable to learn about its key features. It came with an 8-inch display, which will turn into two screens after folding. They will have 6.6 and 6.38 inches of diagonals. Also, the screen uses an OLED material and has a 2480 x 200 resolution.
Other than that, we are talking about the first folding screen smartphone with a Kirin 990 5G chipset, which includes 2 Cortex-A76 cores at 2.86 GHz, 2 Cortex-A76 cores at 2.36 GHz, and 4 Cortex-A55 cores at 1.95GHz.
Another highlight of the phone is the camera system comes with a 40MP wide-angle lens and an f/1.8 aperture, a 16MP ultra-wide angle lens and an f/2.2 aperture, and an 8 MP telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture and OIS.
