Previously, many have been thinking that smartphones emit so much radiation that they are dangerous to our health. Over time, this thesis was disproved. However, recently, Android Central was talking about a new study that ranks Android smartphones with the highest radiation emissions. Not surprisingly, some old models from Google, Sony, Motorola, and OnePlus top the list.

Though the FCC proves that there’s no “credible scientific evidence” that smartphone radiation can cause harm to humans, it’s quite interesting to take a look at those that emit radiation the most.

The research was conducted by Bankless Times. It says that a few older models from Google, Sony, Motorola, OnePlus, OPPO, and ZTE emit the most radiation. The Motorola Edge we like so much ranks first. It is followed by the ZTE Axon 11 5G and the OnePlus 6T.

Apart from the aforementioned three models, there are also a couple of Google Pixel phones, OnePlus models, and Sony Xperia devices. Among them, we can mention the Pixel 3, Pixel 3XL, Pixel 4a, Xperia XA2 Plus, Xperia XZ1 Compact, and the OnePlus 6/6T. If you remember, some of them have been considered to be the best Android handsets a few years ago.

Of course, there is a specific factor allowing the research team ranks these phones. It’s called Specific Absorption Ratios (SAR). The latter measures how quickly the body absorbs radiofrequency energy.

At the beginning of the article, we said that some of these models have SAR higher than what the FCC allows. According to the official information coming our way from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, the maximum allowed SAR level is 1.6 watts per kilogram. So from the chart above, we can see that the Motorola Edge has the worst radiation emission level.

However, there is currently “no consistent or credible scientific evidence of health problems caused by the exposure to radiofrequency energy emitted by cell phones,” according to the FCC. In simple words, no smartphone radiation can be harmful to health.

The Google Pixel phones that emit the most radiation are the Pixel 3, Pixel 3XL, and Pixel 4a.

“These phones are well within all the regulatory and compliance guidelines in countries where we distribute them,” the spokesperson said. “Our latest phones Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have even lower SAR values.”
