Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 Plus Coming In May

Snapdragon 8 Gen1 Plus

Qualcomm officially released the 2022 flagship mobile platform Snapdragon 8 Gen1 at the Snapdragon Technology Summit at the end of last year. From December 2021 to the present, more than a dozen new flagship phones equipped with this chipset have been launched. Honestly, users have different views on this generation of Snapdragon flagship platform.

According to the feedback, although the performance of the Snapdragon 8 is outstanding, there are still problems such as high power consumption and high heat generation. So Qualcomm also needs to further optimize the chip.

Of course, according to past practice, Qualcomm will also launch a “Plus” version. Thus, all those improvements that users requested might be done on the Snapdragon 8 Gen1+.

In fact, since the release of the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 mobile platform, rumors about the “Plus” version have been on the net. Many analysts believe that the “culprit” of the overheating and high power consumption of the Snapdragon 8 is Samsung’s 4nm process.

The TSMC 4nm process that the Snapdragon 8+ may use is also highly anticipated by consumers. TSMC’s 4nm process is more mature and its products have higher energy efficiency.

In addition, the rise of rival MediaTek has also made Qualcomm smell the danger. Whether it is performance yield or cost, Qualcomm faces direct competition from MediaTek Dimensity 9000, Dimensity 8100, and Dimensity 8000 chips. Qualcomm understands this and is actively working to minimize losses.

A few days ago, onsitego revealed that the new Snapdragon SoC will be officially released in May. If the predictions are true, the first Snapdragon 8 Gen1+ phone will be released before the end of May and will be available in June. The first phase of the customer list includes Lenovo, Motorola, OnePlus, VIVO, and Xiaomi. It is still unknown who will be the first.

Snapdragon 8 Gen1 Plus

The Snapdragon 8 Gen1 has the model number SM8450, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen1+ has the model number SM8475, and Qualcomm definitely wants it to be a noticeable improvement over its predecessor.

It is worth mentioning that Qualcomm often does not update only the Snapdragon 8 series. We mean most likely the new 7 series chips will also be unveiled at the same time. These chips, like the Snapdragon 8 Gen1+, are said to be already in the hands of smartphone makers to test and prepare for product launches.

The Qualcomm 5G Summit will be held from May 9 to 11.
