Previously, MediaTek chips have been mainly used by second-tier Chinese smartphone makers that were manufacturing copycats. Now, the Taiwanese chip manufacturer is capable to challenge the top brands such as Qualcomm. In concrete cases, its chips even perform well than the Qualcomm chipsets. The latest Dimensity 9000 is the best proof. Unlike the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, this chip doesn’t suffer from the heating problems. Both use the same manufacturing process and they have many things in common.
Now, we learned that the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 is expected to be adopted by Samsung’s mid-range model from the A series. In the product line of Samsung mobile phones, the A series is the main selling model in the market. So if these rumors are accurate, it will bring a significant increase in MediaTek’s market share.
According to industry insiders, Samsung is likely to use MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 chip on the Galaxy A53 Pro model.
As for the chip itself, the Dimensity 9000 was officially released by MediaTek on December 16, 2021. On February 24, 2022, OPPO officially released the OPPO Find X5 Pro Dimensity Edition, which is also the first model equipped with the Dimensity 9000. Subsequently, Xiaomi, VIVO, Honor, OnePlus, and other mobile phone brands all reported that they will launch their own Dimensity 9000 models in the future.
The Dimensity 9000 adopts TSMC’s 4nm process, Armv9 architecture, and comes with the 1+3+4 three-cluster flagship architecture. Thanks to TSMC’s advanced manufacturing process, the Dimensity 9000 has outstanding performance in energy consumption ratio and got a good reputation.
So it turns out if MediaTek’s top-end chips appear on the phones from brands like Samsung, it will firm competition on the market. We mean Qualcomm is considered to be the main supplier of chips in the smartphone field. For many years, it has been able to keep its leading position. Thanks to this, the company has been able to spend much on research and development. In its turn, this brought to the development of the American company. But now, everything changes. MediaTek has been developing in another way. It was supplying chips to less-known companies. But now, Qualcomm might lose its leading position.
