Yesterday, Xiaomi’s ex-brand Redmi released its next-gen flagship series, namely the Redmi K50. The Pro version is comparable to the Xiaomi Mi 12 Pro. Thus, Xiaomi is now attacking the premium smartphone segment from two frontlines. Of course, many might say that the Dimensity 9000 chip inside the Redmi K50 Pro can’t compete with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 under the hood of the Mi 12 Pro. But those who think so, haven’t seen the benchmark results of these two. Anyway, Xiaomi and Redmi are independent brands. This means that each of them has its own strategy. In this sense, the much-rumored Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra might become a game-changer.
Why we recalled the Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra is that prior to this, we have heard after releasing the Redmi K50 series, Xiaomi will switch to Xiaomi’s strongest flagship of this year. Thus, we guess this phone is on the road and will hit the stores in the near future.
Originally, according to last year’s plan, the phone was supposed to debut in March. However, due to various reasons, the phone’s launch was postponed to May or June.
Recently, we saw the leaked screenshot of the alleged Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra. The GeekBench screenshot showcases that it will come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. As a Weibo blogger who shared the screenshot thinks, this screenshot belongs to Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra’s prototype machine. Anyway, apart from the Qualcomm chip, we can see this machine sports 12GB of RAM.
In terms of hardware, there shouldn’t be serious differences between the performance of the Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra and the Pro. But the highest model might come with improvements, different innovative technologies, and finally, it can focus on other aspects of the phone, such as photography.
Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra Camera
The positioning of the machine is basically the same as last year’s Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra. If believing the previous leaks, the forthcoming Xiaomi flagship will continue to come with a periscope telephoto lens as well as a high-pixel 5x telephoto lens. The imaging effect will still be quite amazing. There will be some self-developed new technologies. If not, the series might lose its leading position in DXO.
Lastly, we have heard that the Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra will get a Leica blessing. If so, it will become Xiaomi’s first high-end flagship phone certified by Leica.
If you remember, previously, Huawei was the main partner of Leica in the smartphone field. But it’s not a worthy partner at the moment.
