In fall this year, we will see a new iPhone series if nothing odd happens. What’s more important, will the Cupertino-based company update the chips in the upcoming iPhone models? Honestly, prior to this, Apple has always updated it. Plus, all models in the same series were packed with the same improved chip. For instance, if buying the iPhone 13 mini or the iPhone 13 Pro Max, you will get the same chip, A15 Bionic chip. However, this might change soon.
A butch of new rumors proves that the next-gen iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max might miss the A16 Bionic chip and still remain at the A15 Bionic SoC. The new chip ought to appear on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Only two Pro models would upgrade to the A16 processor, while the 14 & 14 Max will remain the A15. All four new models will likely come with 6GB RAM, with the difference being LPDDR 5 (14 Pro & 14 Pro Max) vs. LPDDR 4X (14 & 14 Max). https://t.co/tHcszIz6gX

Of course, you can doubt these rumors. But they come our way from Ming-Chi Kuo, who is known for its trustworthy leaks referring to Apple products, including the iPhones.

We understand that most of you (if not all) might be disappointed by this decision. But you should also take into consideration that the current A15 Bionic is still very powerful, and the next-gen but not top-end iPhone models can come with this one. We mean that the overall performance won’t suffer a lot. But in concrete situations, the A16 will have true advantages of the current A15.
On the other hand, this is still in the form of rumors. So everything is possible. We mean this could remain in the rumor state as it is or it can turn into reality. One thing is clear – fall is still far away, and Apple might change its mind millions of times. But if this happens, we think it would be logical as well. When saying this, we mean that there is a chip shortage problem. It will continue until 2023. Plus, the war between Russia and Ukraine will affect the field as well. (These are the main suppliers of neon gas that is essential for chip manufacturing.)
Anyway, there is another rumor. Apple might drop the Mini variant from this year’s lineup. Thus, there could be only four models, including the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The Max models are believed to come with larger displays, while Pro variants could pack more power, cameras, and features.
