Today, a Chinese blogger revealed that VIVO is going to release a flagship phone with great camera performance. The alleged VIVO X80 Pro+ will come with an SM8475 flagship processor and is scheduled to appear on the shelves in the second half of the year.
As for the processor, the SM8475 is an upgraded version of SM8450 (Snapdragon 8). Thus, there is every reason to think the new chip will be called the Snapdragon 8 Plus aka Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. When it is out, this SoC and this phone will become the most powerful chip and handset in the Android camp.
Compared with the current Snapdragon 8 processor, the biggest highlight of the Snapdragon 8 Plus is going to be the converted TSMC 4nm process. Apart from it, the chip should also use a Cortex X2 super core, Cortex A710 large core and Cortex A510 small core architecture.
In comparison to the Samsung 4nm process used by the Snapdragon 8, the improvement of the Snapdragon 8 Plus manufactured by TSMC is relatively limited. So it’s fair to say that this is a minor update and it shouldn’t have an impact on the regular performance. On the other hand, in critical situations when the SoC will have to work on its peak, it will work harder than the horse. So in the near future, wait for mind-blowing benchmark results from this chip.
As said, another selling point of the VIVO X80 Pro+ should be a new camera system. As a reference again, last year’s VIVO X70 Pro+ introduced the self-developed chip V1.
When shooting video, in the face of a large number of complex operations, the V1 chip has an exponential improvement in energy efficiency compared to DSP and CPU. Moreover, when the V1 chip processes the same computational imaging algorithm, the dedicated algorithm of the chip reduces the power consumption of the hardware circuit by 50% compared with the way of software implementation.
Prior to this, another phone has been also rumored to come with this chip. That’s not difficult to guess that we are talking about a Xiaomi handset. The leaked smartphone is initially called the Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra. Yes, this is the same phone that is also rumored to be called the Xiaomi MIX 5 or MIX 5 Pro. The phone has managed to leak for a few times and we know it’s on the road. But it’s still doubtful whether it will come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus SoC.
