A few weeks ago the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro were presented as the latest flagship phones of the Chinese giant. Both devices boast of being equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. But, new reports suggest that Xiaomi would release the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset in a future phone.
A recent leak coming from reliable Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo has revealed the first details and code names of upcoming Xiaomi launches that are currently in development.
Redmi K50 series
The first 4 codenames on the list of Xiaomi are named “munch”, “rubens”, “matisse”, and “fog”. These 4 versions are essentially internal software codenames for Xiaomi’s upcoming Redmi K50 models: Redmi K50, Redmi K50 Pro, Redmi K50 Pro Plus, and Redmi K50 Gaming Edition.
Xiaomi has officially shared that it will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processors on one of the Redmi K50 versions, respectively. Digital Chat Station shared on Weibo post with other Redmi K50 models, Xiaomi will be using and using processor versions of Snapdragon 870 and MediaTek Dimensity 8000.
Recall, the Redmi K50 series launch event will be held in February. According to the subsequent official promotional, one of the Redmi K50 that will be launched next month has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, a 4700mAh battery, 120W ultra-fast charging, and dual VC liquid cooling.
Series with Premium Cameras
The next two smartphones on the list codenamed Xiaomi “thor” and “loki”, are said to be the high-end versions. Digital Chat Station has mentioned that both versions will be powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip and feature a high-quality camera sensor.
Folding and Mid-Range
For the last 6 codenames in the list, those codenames are “light”, “thunder”, “zizhan”, “zijin”, “taoyao” and “opal”. These 6 versions are said to be internal codenames for folding screen devices Xiaomi Mi MIX Flip and Fold 2. There is also the upcoming Redmi Note 12 series.
Regarding the foldable, Digital Chat Station reveals that Xiaomi will equip them with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 12 series would be in charge of releasing the future Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset. Of course, this is not it will happen soon, since we will have to wait until the second half of this year.
