Last month, Xiaomi announced a new high-end smartphone lineup in China. It includes three models of the Xiaomi Mi 12, Mi 12x, and Mi 12 Pro. At the time, we also heard that the Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra is on the road. It ought to be the replacement for the Mi 11 Ultra launched last year. But today, LetsGoDigital states that the most powerful smartphone of Xiaomi is likely not to make an appearance. Well, it will but with another name, Xiaomi MIX 5 Pro.
Anyway, regardless of the name, the phone has been leaked in various photos and documents for a while. Say, the spotted images showed a completely redesigned camera design. If you remember, it was a gigantic round-shaped camera system with several lenses, which is placed on a rectangular platform.
Using all available information, the talented graphic designer Parvez Khan, aka Technizo Concept, has created a series of product renders of the new flagship model. The phone is shown in the colors black and gray.
The Mix series from Xiaomi is known as an innovative smartphone line-up, the new models seem to be no exception. For example, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 was the first phone from the brand with an under-display camera sensor. So there is every reason to think that the Xiaomi MIX 5 Pro will also have this new selfie camera technology.
That’s why the renders of the phone show no holes or bangs on the display. Other than that, there have been some rumors as the phone will place a 48MP under-display front camera. That would be quite a difference from the MIX 4’s 20MP selfie camera – not to mention the difference from the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s 4MP under-panel camera. It seems that Xiaomi has further refined the under-display camera technology, which will also make it better able to collect enough light for high-quality photo and video recordings.
As for the screen itself, the alleged Xiaomi MIX 5 Pro will feature a 6.73-inch AMOLED display with a WQHD+ resolution and an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. The display will have a peak brightness of 1500 nits. The screen is most likely protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Lastly, it will support both HDR10 and Dolby Vision.
The design of the rear camera resembles the Honor Magic 3 series – those devices are also equipped with a gigantic round camera set-up. In terms of configuration, we have heard that it will sport a 50MP wide-angle camera. Or this goal, likely, the phone will use the new Samsung ISOCell GN5 image sensor. It enables improved Dual Pixel Pro autofocus. By the way, it is the successor of the ISOCell GN2, which is used in the Mi 11 Ultra.
In addition to the 50MP main sensor, there should be a 48MP ultra-wide camera and a 48MP periscopic telephoto zoom lens. We have no idea what could be the fourth lens placed in the center.
The Xiaomi MIX 5 and 5 Pro will probably be the first devices with a Leica-branded camera. The renowned German lens manufacturer Leica has been a partner of Huawei for a long time. This collaboration came to an end last year, then Leica has collaborated with the Japanese Sharp – for the Aquos R6 with a 1” sensor.
In fact, we can talk about the rumors features of the Xiaomi MIX 5 Pro for hours. But none of them has been confirmed. So for the moment, it’s better to wait for official news.
