In the fourth quarter of 2021, Google announced that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are equipped with a new Tensor chip developed by the company. Rumor has it that in the next few months the search giant will launch more Pixel 6a using Tensor chip, now leaker Max Jambor has revealed the launch date of this smartphone.
According to the Jambor report, the Google Pixel 6a is scheduled for release next May. To recall, the Pixel 5a 5G was announced in August 2021. Its predecessor Pixel 4a launched in August 2020. The Pixel 3a was unveiled during the Google I/O event, which was held in May 2019.

Therefore, it is likely that at Google I/O 2022 scheduled to take place in May, Google will also launch the Pixel 6a series smartphone. With a high degree of probability together with the Pixel Watch, which we were “promised” for May 26th.
The Possible Features of Google Pixel 6a
Previous leaks suggest the Google Pixel 6a will have a 6.2-inch OLED display, a centered hole-punch selfie camera, and the same camera bump design on the back as the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. It will also likely drop the headphone jack.
It is thought that the Google Tensor GS101 chip that powers the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will also power the upcoming Pixel 6a. Unfortunately, these rumors have not leaked detailed information about the specifications of the Pixel 6a.
As for the camera, recent reports reveal that the rear camera setup of Pixel 6a will include a 12.2MP Sony IMX363, which was first available on Pixel phones in 2018. The main camera will be paired with a 12MP Sony IMX386 ultrawide lens. Meanwhile, for the selfie camera, it will use an 8MP Sony IMX355 lens.
We’ll likely learn more about the Google Pixel 6a as we near the phone’s launch — whether that’s in May, or late summer as in previous years.
