A few days ago, we heard that Tencent will acquire a Xiaomi-related company, Black Shark. As you know, the latter is specialized in making gaming products, especially smartphones, and accessories that can be used with mobile phones. In a few years, this brand could win customers’ hearts and become one of the pathfinders in the gaming smartphone field. However, the latest deep cooperation with Tencent made it lay down its arms. And Tencent has already confirmed that it will sign an acquisition agreement soon. This causes objective doubts – will the new company launch new gaming smartphones in the future or not? Tencent hinted that Black Shark will be integrated into its department that is responsible for making VR equipment. But what about the Black Shark 5 that has been on the road for a while?
Fortunately, Black Shark has issued an official statement saying that the Black Shark 5 will hit the market according to the schedule. Today, we learned from insiders that this phone won’t go on sale outside China right away. Indeed, the manufacturer plans to launch the Black Shark 4S Pro globally.
As for the Black Shark 5 itself, the series will include two models codenamed the Katyusha and Patriot. The former device with model number KTUS-A0 has already been filed with China’s MIIT confirming its existence.
However, we are more interested in the performance upgrades rather than in the codenames. Fortunately, the tipster said this lineup will differ from the predecessor a lot. It will sport a new chip, a bigger battery, and the latest OS. The Black Shark 5 will feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and run on Android 12-based JOYUI. As for the battery, the 4,600mAh dual-cell battery will support 100W fast charging.
Another Weibo blogger said that the Black Shark 5 Pro will have a 5,000mAh battery, with 120W fast charging support. Inside, it will carry the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. He also revealed that the device may come with a 6.8-inch AMOLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate and 2K resolution.
The current models, the Black Shark 4S and 4S Pro have a smaller 4,500mAh battery and are equipped with Snapdragon 870/888 SoC.
At the moment, there is no specific launch date set for this series.
