Nokia, a former king of the mobile phones market, is not popular anymore. Moreover, it launches smartphones for low-end and mid-range categories only. Its handsets’ prices do not exceed $300. But this doesn’t mean the new Nokia phones are meager. Vise versa, in this price range, the manufacturer brings pretty-looking devices. The Nokia G20 and Nokia X100 are the best examples.
This year, HMD, which has taken Nokia’s management and promotion, is going to double down on the budget smartphone category. At CES 2022, the company announced phones that are affordable for everyone. Two of the phones belong to the “G” series, while two others are ultra-cheap “C” phones.
Nokia G400 And G100
Probably, the most interesting model is the Nokia G400, which is priced at $239. It sports a 6.6-inch FHD+ display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate. The latter can be met only at premium smartphones. Well, maybe there could be a couple of mid-rangers. But this is a feature you will never meet in low-end handsets. There is also a 48MP main sensor, a 5,000mAh battery, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage,
The selling point of this handset should be considered support for 5G connectivity. It will work with some new carriers (Dish Wireless and Consumer Cellular) in addition to HMD’s usual partners (T-Mobile and TracFone). Of course, our protagonist will run Android 12 out of the box.
As you noticed, we didn’t mention the specific chip name. But the rest of the features are almost identical to the Nokia X100. It’s another $250 phone.
Another cheap phone from this series is the $149 Nokia G100. It comes with a 6.5-inch HD+ screen and 4G connectivity but retains the same 5,000mAh battery. At the moment, we have only this info. They will hit the market sometime in the first half of 2022.
Nokia C200 and C100
As said, there are two phones from the C series. They are $119 C200 and $99 C100. Among them, the C100 seems more interesting. It has a 5.45-inch screen and many other modest features such as an 8MP main camera, a 3,000mAh battery, etc. It is scheduled to become available for purchase in the first quarter.
As for the C200, it features a 6.1-inch display and a 4,000mAh battery.
Unfortunately, HMD didn’t disclose what chips will be inside and what other features they boast. But as we are dealing with affordable models, do not expect much from them.
Nokia also released a new feature phone in Q1 2021, the 2760 Flip.
